The Successful Applicant

Specialized Experience Requirement: For the GS 11: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS10). Specialized experience is defined as three or more of the following: Assisting with the organizing coordinating and supervising of a comprehensive residential living program ensuring a safe healthy atmosphere and/or providing guidance and leadership to the residential living activity and/or modifying adapting expanding or otherwise changing plans and procedures for such activities as new and/or changing developments require and/or evaluating the effectiveness of ongoing resident living activities from the standpoint of student response and behavior unforeseen developments and program objectives. OR Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M.(coursework must be directly related to the position being filled such as social behavior human behavior psychology or health care) OR an appropriate combination of specialized experience and graduate level education (beyond what is required for a masters degree i.e. more than 36 semester/54 quarter hours leading to a Ph.D.). The education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university and demonstrate the knowledge skills and abilities necessary to do the work. In service applicants can qualify with at least one year at either the next lower grade level (GS10) or the second lower grade level (GS9). There are no GS10 positions in the normal line of progression in the Job Corps organization one year of specialized experience at the second lower grade level (GS9) will be creditable for in service applicants. For outside applicants one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS10) is required. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g. Peace Corps AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g. professional philanthropic religious spiritual community student social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies knowledge and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience including volunteer experience. TIME IN GRADE REQUIREMENT: If you are a current federal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and applying for a promotion opportunity you must meet timeingrade (TIG) requirements of 52 weeks of service at the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the position being filled.
