The Successful Applicant

For more information on the qualifications for this position visit the Office of Personnel Managements General Schedule Qualification Standards. Your application and resume must clearly show that you possess the experience requirements including work schedule hours worked per week dates of employment title series grade (if applicable). Specialized Experience Requirement: GS8: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS7). Specialized experience is defined as two or more of the following: Provided onsite supervision of youths while ensuring a safe and healthy atmosphere and/or Provided direction guidance instruction or orientation for students and/or Assisted in setting student performance standards goals and objectives and/or Served as a monitor for a dormitory group in a boarding school or other residential facility. OR Two full years (36 semester/54 quarter hours) of successfully completed graduate level education or masters degree if the coursework is directly related to the work of the position (such as social behavior human behavior psychology or health care) OR combinations of graduate level education that is directly related to the position (in excess of 18 semester/27 quarter hours) and specialized experience. The education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university. Specialized Experience Requirement: GS9: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS8) there is no substitution of education for specialized experience at this grade level. In service applicants can qualify with at least one year at either the next lower grade level (GS8) or the second lower grade level (GS7). There are no GS8 positions in the normal line of progression in the Job Corps organization one year of specialized experience at the second lower grade level (GS7) will be creditable for in service applicants. For outside applicants one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS8) is required. Specialized experience is defined as three or more of the following: Worked in a behavior management program where the primary responsibility involved guiding and counseling students and/or Trained staff on group living disciplinary policies and procedures and/or Assisted in maintaining discipline in a group living environment and/or Served as a proctor for a dormitory group in a boarding school or other residential facility. OR Two full years (36 semester/54 quarter hours) of successfully completed graduate level education or masters degree if the coursework is directly related to the work of the position (such as social behavior human behavior psycology or health care) OR Combinations of graduate level education that is directly related to the position (in excess of 18 semester/27 quarter hours) and specialized experience. The education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university. .Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g. Peace Corps AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g. professional philanthropic religious spiritual community student social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies knowledge and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience including volunteer experience. TIME IN GRADE REQUIREMENT: If you are a current federal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and applying for a promotion opportunity you must meet timeingrade (TIG) requirements of 52 weeks of service at the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the position being filled. This requirement must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
