The Successful Applicant
To qualify for this position you must meet the following requirements: QUALS: This position includes a Selective Placement Factor (skill knowledge ability or other worker characteristic basic to and essential for satisfactory performance of the job). Selective Placement Factors are a prerequisite to appointment and represent minimum requirements for a position. Applicants who do not meet it are ineligible for further consideration. The Selective Placement Factor for this position is: Have experience supervising or leading staff performing functions and activities involving the linking of emergency services to customers in suicidal or homicidal crises in a crisis/call center setting. and ENGLISH LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY: In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7402(d) No person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English. You must be proficient in basic written and spoken English in order to meet the requirements of this position. and SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: You must have at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS8) in Federal Service that has given you the knowledge skills and abilities necessary to perform the duties of a Supervisory Social Services Assistant GS9. Examples of qualifying experience includes: serving as a group leader in community or residential recreation or training programs serving as a counselor in a youth summer camp serving as an instructor in a training program for the development of job skills performing work that demonstrated the ability to be responsible for and to lead and train members of a job crew serving as a group activities leader in the Armed Services serving as a unit leadermonitorproctor for a dormitory group in a boarding school or other residential facility serving as an aid or assistant to professional or specialist staff in such fields as personnel (private or government) employment guidance in a vocational or academic institution social service or manpower development serving as an aid or assistant to professional or associate staff engaged in work of a social services nature in private public welfare government program or community organizations or in voluntary activities serving as an aid or assistant to professional or specialist staff working with individuals who are addicted to or abuse alcohol and/or drugs. NOTE: Experience must be fully documented on your resume and must include job title duties month and year start/end dates AND hours worked per week. OR EDUCATION: A masters degree or you have successfully completed two (2) years of graduatelevel education leading to a masters degree or equivalent graduate degree that is directly related to the work of this position. One year of graduate study is usually considered to be 18 semester hours unless otherwise indicated by the school attended. NOTE: If you select this option you must submit a copy of your transcript with your application. Education cannot be credited without documentation. OR COMBINATION: An equivalent combination of successfully completed graduate education and specialized experience as described above that meets the total experience requirements for this grade level. NOTE: If you select this option you must clearly document your related experience in your resume and submit a copy of your transcript with your application. You will be rated on the following Competencies as part of the assessment questionnaire for this position: Managing Human Resources Organizational Awareness Planning and Evaluating Teaching Others Technical Competence IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 3540 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Parttime experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g. Peace Corps AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g. professional philanthropic religious spiritual community student social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies knowledge and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience including volunteer experience. Physical Requirements: The Supervisory Social Service Assistant work is primarily sedentary. Some physical exertion is required such as standing walking or carrying of light items.
