The Successful Applicant

The position of Social Scientist falls under the 0101 occupational series. To qualify for this position at grade GS11 you must meet all requirements by 11:59 pm EST on 10/01/2024. Basic Requirements You possess a bachelors or graduate/higher level degree that includes at least 24 semester hours of course work in the behavioral or social sciences. This degree must be from an educational program from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. NOTE: Applicants must submit all relevant transcripts that demonstrate you possess the required education to meet the Basic Qualifications. Minimum Qualifications: Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge skills and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. The specialized experience must demonstrate one year of fulltime work experience or the equivalent if parttime (for example an employee working 20 hours per week for a 12month period should be credited with 6 months of experience.) Experience may have been obtained in either the federal service or its equivalent with state or local government the private sector or nongovernmental organizations. GS11: You have at least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS09 level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors) performing the following duties: 1) Utilizing social theories methods and techniques (e.g. focus groups and surveys) to assist with research 2) Collaborating with internal or external stakeholders to determine the impact of social constructs on public health issues 3) Identifying trends in research data to report to a team or other necessary personnel and 4) Identifying relevant findings and/or methodologies to apply to internal practices or projects to meet goals. OR You have completed my Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree OR 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree from an accredited college or university that provided the knowledge skills and abilities necessary to perform this work. OR You have a combination of specialized experience (less than one year) and graduate education (beyond 2 years of graduate education) that when combined equals 100 of the qualification requirement. Note: Only graduate education in excess of two years (generally 36 semester hours) may be used in this calculation.
