The Successful Applicant

Applicants must meet all qualifications and eligibility requirements by the closing date of the announcement including specialized experience and/or education as defined below. BASIC REQUIREMENT: In order to be considered for this announcement applicants must meet one or more of the following: a) Degree: Four full years of education above high school leading to a bachelors or higher degree in behavioral or social science or related disciplines appropriate to the position b) Combination of education and experience that provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field. OR c) Four years of appropriate experience that demonstrated that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field. In addition to the basic requirement applicants must also possess: FOR THE GS12 LEVEL: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS11 level) that may have been obtained in the private or public (local county state Federal) sectors which demonstrates: Conducting research on agricultural marketing issues including gathering and analyzing data. Experience leading research activities or evaluations of local and regional food markets and supply chains. Development and execution of complex research proposals including authoring and assessing scopes of work that incorporate appropriate research methodologies and draw relevant and valid conclusions from research findings. Designing and delivering expert training and technical assistance to stakeholders focused on improving financial viability and/or market access for small and midsized farms and food businesses. Note: There is no education substitution for this grade level. FOR THE GS13 LEVEL: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS12 level) that may have been obtained in the private or public (local county state Federal) sectors which demonstrates: Conducting research and analysis of agricultural marketing issues including the ability to collect primary data create original databases and extract/report pertinent information from large datasets. Serving as a principal investigator (e.g. research project director) managing teams to design execute and analyze research on food systems topics. Development and execution of complex research proposals including authoring and assessing scopes of work that incorporate appropriate research methodologies and draw relevant and valid conclusions from research findings. Experience leading researchbased projects to develop and/or improve outreach and technical assistance materials curriculum and or expert programing for a variety of local food stakeholders including state agencies farmers markets producers food hubs and institutions. Experience working with project partners across federal agencies and/or organizational boundaries and collaborating with a variety of local food systems stakeholders to increase support for demand for and supply of local and regional food. Note: There is no education substitution for this grade level. TRANSCRIPTS are required if: This position requires specific coursework or a degree in a specific field to be basically qualified. This education must have been successfully completed and obtained from an accredited school college or university Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g. Peace Corps AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g. professional philanthropic religious spiritual community student social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience including volunteer experience.
