The Successful Applicant

In order to qualify you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions Technical and Medical Support Positions Social Services Aid and Assistant Series 0186 SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS04 or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes group leader in community or residential recreation or training programs. Counselor in a youth summer camp. Instructor in a training program for the development of job skills. Work that demonstrated the ability to be responsible for and to lead and train members of a job crew. Group activities leader in the Armed Services. Unit leadermonitorproctor for a dormitory group in a boarding school or other residential facility. Aid or assistant to professional or specialist staff in such fields as personnel (private or government) employment guidance in a vocational or academic institution social service or manpower development. Aid or assistant to professional or associate staff engaged in work of a social services nature in private public welfare government program or community organizations or in voluntary activities. Aid or assistant to professional or specialist staff working with individuals who are addicted to or abuse alcohol and/or drugs. NOTE: Your resume must support your response. OR EDUCATION: Successfully completed a full 4year course of study leading to a bachelors degree that included at least 24 semester hours in any combination of subjects directly related to the work of the position OR included a major in social behavior human behavior or health care OR was supplemented by specialized experience as described above. OR COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100. KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge skills abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Knowledge of proper interview techniques and the ability to use tact and diplomacy. Knowledge of the organization and its functions sufficient to process incoming and outgoing mail. 2. Ability to communicate orally and in writing to include composing nontechnical correspondence. Ability to motivate and work well with others in a team setting. Ability to make arrangements for such things as travel conferences and meetings. 3. Knowledge of Air Force Aid Program requirements and procedures. Knowledge of travel regulations procedures and practices sufficient to prepare travel authorization and vouchers. 4. Knowledge of common clerical practices and office routines such as referring visitors and callers routing correspondence by name and functional area obtaining requested material from files and keeping time and attendance records. Knowledge of filing system and subject matter content of the materials being processed sufficiently to classify retrieve and dispose of materials. 5. Knowledge of correct grammar spelling punctuation capitalization syntax and required formats to accurately prepare and edit written correspondence and reports. Knowledge of word processing automation software functions to produce a variety of textual documents such as letters reports memos and form letters. 6. Skill and typing a qualified typist is required. A minimum of 40won proficiency is required. PARTTIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or parttime work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e. Peace Corps AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g. professional philanthropic religious spiritual community student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience including volunteer experience.
