Area 1 All permanent employees (NG T32/NG T5) within Puerto Rico Air National Guard Area 2 All indefinite employees (NG T32/NG T5) within Puerto Rico Air National Guard Area 3 Currently serving members of the Puerto Rico Air National Guard (DSG) Area 4 Prior (former) members of the Puerto Rico Air National Guard Area 5 All current Federal Employees (from any agency) Area 7 US Citizens DUTIES: As a SOCIAL WORKER (NGT59128P1) GS 0185 12 you will provide operational leadership consultation direct client services community capacity building preventive remedial and support services aimed at improving and sustaining the psychological health of Air National Guard (ANG) military members and their families. As a part of the ANG Wing Director of Psychological Health (WDPH) Program the incumbent of this position provides access to a full range of professional services for the populations served. The Air National Guard Psychological Health Program (ANG PHP) will provide consultation to operational leadership on psychological health issues and vertical integration of Military Service and Department of Defense (DOD)wide psychological health initiatives and populationhealth monitoring. Clinical and administrative duties focus on outreach education and prevention needsbased and psychosocial assessment diagnosis shortterm problem resolution and provision of or referral to evidencedbased interventions. Responsibilities include providing primary secondary and tertiary prevention programs specialty training for ANG health care professionals and other personnel on issues related to the psychological health of Airmen and their families and multilevel community organization collaboration and enhancement. Individuals requiring clinical interventions (i.e. clinical treatment) for other than shortterm problem resolution should immediately be referred to an appropriate and competent clinical professional. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The work is partially sedentary and may involve walking standing bending light lifting/carrying and operating personal computers and other office equipment. There is occasional travel between military and nonmilitary facilities both within and outside the assigned area to attend meetings complete training and maintain unrestricted privileges. Considerable mental stress may be imposed due to the highly personal sensitive and complex nature of the services provided as well as the responsibilities involved. WORKING ENVIRONMENT: The work environment involves moderate risks that require special safety precautions. Some work is performed in a semicontrolled clinical environment that may be unprotected by a duress alarm system or safety doors and other work environments will frequently involve other locations both on and off the installation. The incumbent is to regularly exercise (i.e. review and/or practice) various scenarios to include responding to mental health emergencies including potentially violent clients. This position may occasionally require exposure to individuals under great personal and emotional stress. Some degree of hazard is present in working with emotionally distressed individuals and all precautions must be followed to protect the safety of clients/patients family members coworkers and the public in general while exercising the highest degree of ethics. The incumbent must be completely trustworthy in dealing with highly sensitive information. Additionally there are the normal risks or discomforts common to various office settings travel collaboration with other professionals and nonprofessionals and military settings in general. Work areas should remain adequately lighted heated or cooled and ventilated. Masters degree in Social Work from an institution accredited by the Council on Social Work Education. Other mental health degrees and training as identified in AFI 44119 (Medical Quality Operations) are acceptable. Candidate must be a fully qualified Mental Health professional IAW AFI 44119. Note: Copy of official/student transcripts showing conferred Degree must be included in order to receive credit for education. AND B. Must possess a current unrestricted license to practice clinical social work independently in any one of the 50 states the District of Columbia Puerto Rico or the U.S Virgin Islands. This experience demonstrates competencies of knowledge of social work theories principles techniques and resources skills and abilities to successfully performing duties such as interviewing people to establish the nature and extent of their problems helping them workout plans for improving the situation providing assistance and services referring them to community resources and other organizations as indicated assisting them to understand and modify their own patterns of behavior when appropriate supporting the commanders leadership team in addressing the psychological health solutions of their installation providing strategic planning and leadership conducting annual training for unit leadership on psychological health issues participating in community activities and in relevant committee meetings educating NG leadership on how to recognize and assist individuals experiencing psychological health conditions collecting information on clients who attempt suicide providing consultation to the Sexual Assault Response Coordinator (SARC) responding to inquiries from National Guard Bureau Wing Commanders Air Force Medical Operations Agency Air Force Medical Standards Agency Major Command Mental Health Consultants conducting assessments routine and crisis evaluations psychodiagnostic assessments providing shortterm evidencebased problem resolution on cases carrying professional responsibility for findings interpretations decisions recommendations reports and services designing developing coordinating and implementing prevention and community outreach and education programs providing professional consultation advice education and training to other military and nonmilitary health care professionals medical personnel. Note: A minimum of two (2) years within the past five (5) years in the independent practice of clinical social work is highly desired.
