Grade Determination: GS12: Must have at least one year of experience equivalent to the GS11 grade level in which the experience demonstrates a possession of advanced practice skills and judgment demonstrating progressively more professional competency Demonstrated Knowledge Skills and Abilities: In addition to the experience above the candidate must demonstrate all of the following KSAs:(a) Knowledge of program coordination and administration which includes consultation negotiation and monitoring.(b) Knowledge and ability to write policies procedures and/or practice guidelines for the program.(c) Ability to supervise multidisciplinary staff assigned to the program.(d) Skill in organizing work setting priorities meeting multiple deadlines and evaluating assigned program area(s).(e) Ability to provide training orientation and guidance within clinical practice. Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Citizenship. Have a masters degree in social work from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Graduates of schools of social work that are in candidacy status do not meet this requirement until the School of Social Work is fully accredited. A doctoral degree in social work may not be substituted for the masters degree in social work. Verification of the degree can be made by going to http://www.cswe.org/Accreditation to verify that the social work degree meets the accreditation standards for a Master of Social Work. Licensure. Persons hired or reassigned to social worker positions in the GS0185 series in VHA must be licensed or certified by a state to independently practice social work at the masters degree level. Candidates must be proficient in spoken and written English to be appointed as authorized by 38 U.S.C. 167 7403(f). Education and Experience. One year of experience equivalent to the GS11 grade level. Experience must demonstrate possession of advanced practice skills and judgment demonstrating progressively more professional competency. Candidate may have certification or other postmasters degree training from a nationally recognized professional organization or university that includes a defined curriculum/course of study and internship or equivalent supervised professional experience. The grade may have been in any occupation but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF50 that shows your timeingrade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF50 has an effective date within the past year it may not clearly demonstrate you possess oneyear timeingrade as required by the announcement. Assignments.1. Develops facilitates and strengthens CommunityBased Interventions for Suicide Prevention at the community state and VISN levels.2. Connects VA programs and stakeholdersincluding but not limited to Veterans Veteran Service Organizations congressional staff media community business partners and community members throughout the health care system and VISN catchment areasto conduct communitybased interventions and provide outreach and education on suicide preventionrelated topics and services.3. Serves as a subject matter expert (SME) in public health and suicide prevention supporting partnerships and coalitions by providing new or existing community education and outreach initiatives on behalf of the assigned VA Health Care facility and the surrounding catchment area 4. Implements VHA CommunityBased Interventions for Suicide Prevention including collaborating with community Veteran and state partners to develop conduct and/or support communitybased suicide prevention programs as defined and supported by the VHA Suicide Prevention Program5. Develops VHAcommunity partnerships meet with prospective community partners and/or establish formal relationships between the VHA and local partners to facilitate suicide prevention in the community .6. Develops and provides suicide prevention related media/marketing including interviews (print or broadcast) social media postings and communication campaigns (Paid/PSAs)7. Provides a variety of suicide prevention trainings including but not limited to a focus on training in Lethal Means Safety Mental Health Apps (Hope Box PTSD etc.) Military Culture Other Gatekeeper Training (QPR ASSIST) Postintervention Safety Planning S.A.V.E. Suicide Risk Evaluation Whole Health/Wellness8. Hosts Outreach Awareness Tables on suicide prevention at community events9. Leads meetings with prospective and existing community stakeholder(s) focused on Veteran suicide prevention.10. Provides leadership for coalition management leads alignment of community coalition goals with VA goals collaborates with nonVA coalition leaders (remote or in person) attends coalition meetings (general) and coalition subcommittee meetings manages and attends coalition sponsored events/public meetings conducts and/or supports coalition evaluation activities (survey distribution data collection key informant interviews etc.) and leads other coalition activities defined in a coalition action plan. The full performance level of this vacancy is GS12. Reference: VA Handbook 5005/120 Part II Appendix G39 Social Worker Qualification Standard September 10 2019. You will be rated on the following Competencies for this position: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g. Peace Corps AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g. professional philanthropic religions spiritual community student social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies knowledge and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 3540 hours of work per week. Parttime experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements: The physical demands of the work are generally minor. The work is primarily sedentary in nature and usually occurs within climate controlled clinical and administrative settings. There may be occasional light lifting/carrying (15 pounds or less) requirements to relocated boxed materials from one area to another equipment and room setup and ambulation related to the physical inspections of the facilities.
