The Successful Applicant
To qualify for this position applicant(s) must meet one of the following: GENERAL AND SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must possess 6 months of general experience and 6 months of specialized experience equivalent to the GS3 level in the Federal service that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge skills and abilities (KSAs) needed to successfully perform the duties of the position and that is typically in or related to this Social Services Aid position to be filled. Qualifying general experience is: 1) Any type of work that demonstrates the applicants ability to perform the work of the position or (2) experience that provided a familiarity with the subject matter or processes of the broad subject area of the occupation. Qualifying specialized experience includes serving as a group leader in community or residential recreation or training programs serving as a counselor in a youth summer camp serving as an instructor in a training program for the development of job skills performing work that demonstrated the ability to be responsible for and to lead and train members of a job crew serving as a group activities leader in the Armed Services serving as a unit leadermonitorproctor for a dormitory group in a boarding school or other residential facility serving as an aid or assistant to professional or specialist staff in such fields as personnel (private or government) employment guidance in a vocational or academic institution social service or manpower development serving as an aid or assistant to professional or associate staff engaged in work of a social services nature in private public welfare government program or community organizations or in voluntary activities serving as an aid or assistant to professional or specialist staff working with individuals who are addicted to or abuse alcohol and/or drugs. Applicants with one year of specialized experience do not need to meet 6 months of general experience. (THIS EXPERIENCE MUST BE SUPPORTED BY YOUR RESUME TO BE CREDITABLE.) OR SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED): You must have successfully completed 2 years of study above high school that (a) included at least 12 semester hours of subjects directly related to the work of the position or (b) was supplemented by experience in activities that afforded the opportunity to acquire and demonstrate the skills required by the position. The supplementary experience may have been gained for example in parttime or summer employment in volunteer social welfare or recreation programs or in community organizations. (COPY OF UNOFFICIAL OR OFFICIAL TRANSCRIPTS ARE REQUIRED AT TIME OF APPLICATION) OR COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: You must possess equivalent combinations of successfully completed posthigh school education and specialized experience to meet total qualification requirements at the GS4 level. One year of fulltime academic study is defined as 30 semester hours 45 quarter hours or the equivalent in a college or university or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business secretarial or technical school. (THIS EXPERIENCE MUST BE SUPPORTED BY YOUR RESUME TO BE CREDITABLE AND COPY OF UNOFFICIAL OR OFFICIAL TRANSCRIPTS ARE REQUIRED AT TIME OF APPLICATION) You will be rated on the following Competencies as part of the assessment questionnaire for this position: Communications Customer Service Technology Application Veteran and Customer Focus IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 3540 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Parttime experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g. Peace Corps AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g. professional philanthropic religious spiritual community student social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies knowledge and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience including volunteer experience. Physical Requirements: The work primarily requires sitting for periods of time walking standing and occasionally reaching or bending. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.
