The Successful Applicant
Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Noncitizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Education: Applicants must have a masters degree in social work from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Graduates of schools of social work that are in candidacy status do not meet requirement until the school of social work is fully accredited. A doctoral degree in social work may not be substituted for the masters degree in social work. Verification of the degree can be made by going to the CSWE website to verify if degree meets accreditation standards for a master of social work. Applicants must have a current and active license by a state to independently practice social work at the masters degree level. Grade Determinations:GS13Experience/Education. One year of experience equivalent to the GS12 grade level. Experience must demonstrate possession of advanced practice skills in a specialty area or in administration demonstrating progressively more professional competency and judgment. Candidate may have certification or other postmasters degree training from a nationally recognized professional organization or university that includes a defined curriculum/course of study and internship or equivalent supervised professional experience. Licensure/Certification. Individuals assigned as supervisory social workers must be licensed at the advanced practice level and must be able to provide supervision for licensure. Demonstrated Knowledge Skills and Abilities. In addition to the experience above the candidate must demonstrate all of the following KSAs: Ability to independently organize work set priorities and meet multiple deadlines. Skill in a range of supervisory duties which includes clinical supervision consultation negotiation with other departments and quality improvement. Ability to ensure provision of clinical social work services by supervised social workers. Ability to delegate authority manage priorities coordinate work and follow up on pending issues to complete duties in an accurate and timely fashion. Ability to analyze organizational and operational problems develop and implement solutions that result in efficient operations and use data effectively to manage workload quality performance and productivity within the service. Ability to provide staff training and development. Preferred Experience: 23 years medical clinical social work case management experience in an acute care facility social work management experience References: VA Handbook 5005 Part II Appendix G39 Physical Requirements: This position requires visual acuity keen hearing clear distinctive speech and manual dexterity. This position requires periods of sitting walking standing stooping sitting bending pulling pushing and reaching over head. The incumbent may be exposed to infected patients and contaminated materials and may be required to don protective clothing in isolation situations or operative/invasive procedures. The incumbent may occasionally be exposed to patients who are combative secondary to delirium dementia or psychiatric disorders. The incumbent must be a mature flexible sensible individual capable of working effectively in stressful situations able to shift priorities based on patient needs. Must complete annual Employee Health requirements such as annual TB screening or testing as a condition of employment. Incumbent may be exposed on a shortterm basis to fumes dust and other debris. Some positions require rotation of tours or indefinite work on nonadministrative tours as established by the immediate supervisor.
