The Successful Applicant

Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship. Noncitizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Education. Applicants must have a masters degree in social work from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Graduates of schools of social work that are in candidacy status do not meet requirement until the school of social work is fully accredited. A doctoral degree in social work may not be substituted for the masters degree in social work. Verification of the degree can be made by going to the CSWE website to verify if degree meets accreditation standards for a master of social work. Licensure. Applicants must have a current and active license or certification by a state to independently practice social work at the masters degree level. Grade Determinations:GS13Experience/Education: One year of experience equivalent to the GS12 grade level. Experience must demonstrate possession of advanced practice skills and judgment demonstrating progressively more professional competency. Licensure/Certification: Individuals assigned as social worker program coordinator must be licensed or certified at the advanced practice level and must be able to provide supervision for licensure. Demonstrated Knowledge Skills and Abilities: In addition to the experience above the candidate must demonstrate all of the following KSAs. (a) Knowledge of program coordination and administration which includes consultation negotiation and monitoring.(b) Knowledge and ability to write policies procedures and/or practice guidelines for the program.(c) Ability to supervise multidisciplinary staff assigned to the program.(d) Skill in organizing work setting priorities meeting multiple deadlines and evaluating assigned program area(s).(e) Ability to provide training orientation and guidance within clinical practice. Preferred Experience: 3 years Mental Health experience experience in leadership Applicants with the following certification from American Heart Association (AHA) or Military Training Network (MTN) are highly preferred: Basic Life Support (BLS). The selected employee will be required to receive certification prior to assuming clinical responsibilities and ensure current certification after employment is maintained. References: VA Handbook 5005 Part II Appendix G39 Physical Requirements: While performing the duties of this job the incumbent is frequently required to stand walk and bend climb stairs and reach with hands and arms. The incumbent must have good manual dexterity and keyboarding skills. The incumbent must be able to communicate efficiently by expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. In addition the incumbent must be able to utilize view or read information on computer screens and operate the telecommunication equipment. The individual must be able to operate a motor vehicle or secure transportation through other means.
