The Successful Applicant
Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Basic Requirements: Citizenship: Noncitizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Education: Have a masters degree in social work from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Graduates of schools of social work that are in candidacy status do not meet this requirement until the School of Social Work is fully accredited. A doctoral degree in social work may not be substituted for the masters degree in social work. Licensure. Persons hired or reassigned to social worker positions in the GS185 series in VHA must be licensed or certified by a state to independently practice social work at the masters degree level. Current state requirements may be found on the OHRM website. COPY OF LICENSE IS REQUIRED. Preferred Experience: Experience includes previous assignments working with interdisciplinary teams in the provision of primary medical care knowledge of community resources and issues related to health concerns independent assessment of psychosocial needs and care planning. Social Worker GS11 Level: Independently complete thorough psychosocial assessments to determine the psychosocial functioning and needs of Veterans and/or their families. Ability to work with patients and families who are experiencing a variety of psychiatric medical and social problems. Basic knowledge of psychosocial treatment modalities and under supervision ability to implement treatment modalities in working with individuals families and groups. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients staff and representatives of community agencies. Knowledge of medical and mental health diagnoses disabilities and treatment procedures. Basic skill in the use of computer software applications for data management and tracking. Knowledge of community resources how to make appropriate referrals to community and other governmental agencies for services. Ability to independently assess the psychosocial functioning and needs of patients. Ability to independently conduct psychosocial assessments and provide treatment to a wide variety of individuals from various socioeconomic cultural ethnic educational and other diversified backgrounds. Knowledge of psychosocial treatment and ability to independently implement treatment modalities in working with individuals or groups. May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria). The full performance level of this vacancy is GS11. The actual grade at which an applicant may be selected for this vacancy is GS11. References: VA Handbook 5005/120 Appendix G39 dated 09/10/2019. Physical Requirements: The PACT SW position is largely sedentary with some light office work. No travel or heavy lifting is required.
