The Successful Applicant

Basic Requirements Citizenship: Be a citizen of the United States. (Noncitizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with chapter 3 section A paragraph 3g this part.) Education: Have a masters degree in social work from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Graduates of schools of social work that are in candidacy status do not meet this requirement until the school of social work is fully accredited. Note: A doctoral degree in social work may not be substituted for the masters degree in social work. Verification of the degree can be made by going to the CSWE website to verify if that social work degree meets the accreditation standards for a master of social work Licensure: Individuals assigned as supervisory social workers must be licensed or certified at the advanced practice level and must be able to provide supervision for licensure. English Language Proficiency: Social workers must be proficient in spoken and written English in accordance with VA Handbook 5005 Part II chapter 3 section A paragraph 3j this part. Grade Determinations: At the GS13 grade Supervisory Social Workers typically supervise professional and nonprofessional staff. They are responsible for the professional and administrative management of an area in a social work service in a care/product line or across multiple sites (e.g. multi division facilities and CBOCs). Incumbent may also provide direct clinical services. Experience: Individuals assigned as Supervisory Social Workers must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS12 grade. level. Experience must demonstrate possession of advanced practice skills in a specialty area or in administration demonstrating progressively more professional competency and judgment. Candidate may have certification or other postmasters degree training from a nationally recognized professional organization or university that includes a defined curriculum/course of study and internship or equivalent supervised professional experience In addition the candidate must demonstrate the professional KSAs below. Demonstrated Knowledge Skills and Abilities: Ability to independently organize work set priorities and meet multiple deadlines. Skill in a range of supervisory duties which includes clinical supervision consultation negotiation with other departments and quality improvement. Ability to ensure provision of clinical social work services by supervised social workers. Ability to delegate authority manage priorities coordinate work and follow up on pending issues to complete duties in an accurate and timely fashion. Ability to analyze organizational and operational problems develop and implement solutions that result in efficient operations and use data effectively to manage workload quality performance and productivity within the service. Ability to provide staff training and development. References: VA Handbook 5005 Part II Appendix G39 The full performance level of this vacancy is GS13.The actual grade at which an applicant may be selected for this vacancy is the GS13. Preferred Experience: Experience and knowledge of BHIP principles. Knowledge of clinic and group practice management principles. Physical Requirements: The social work duties include sedentary and ambulation (walking) throughout the medical center and in the community according to the demands of daily tasks. Light carrying less than 15 poundsmay be required as part of duties related to storing or moving files. Working around moving objects or vehiclesrequired as part of daily ambulating within the medical center around patients who use motorized scooters and wheelchairs. Working alongduties require working along at intervals during the day (i.e. documenting progress notes completing phone call etc.). Reaching above shoulder may be required during daily task to access files located in overhead cabinets. Walking required approximately 34 hours daily associated with walking from assigned office to outpatient clinics and other medical center departments as needed to complete duties of the position. It is required that this individual be able to operate a motor vehicle as this position and it is expected that the incumbent visit patients offsite as part of their duties.
