The Successful Applicant
Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Noncitizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Education. Have a masters degree in social work from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Graduates of schools of social work that are in candidacy status do not meet this requirement until the School of Social Work is fully accredited. A doctoral degree in social work may not be substituted for the masters degree in social work. Verification of the degree can be made by going to http://www.cswe.org/Accreditation to verify that the social work degree meets the accreditation standards for a masters of social work. Licensure/Certification. Individuals assigned as social worker program coordinator must be licensed or certified at the advanced practice level and must be able to provide supervision for licensure. Grade Determinations: At the GS12 grade you must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS11 level. Experience must demonstrate possession of advanced practice skills and judgment demonstrating progressively more professional competency. Candidate may have certification or other postmasters degree training from a nationally recognized professional organization or university that includes a defined curriculum/course of study and internship or equivalent supervised professional experience. In addition the candidate must demonstrate the professional KSAs below: Knowledge of program coordination and administration which includes consultation negotiation and monitoring. Knowledge and ability to write policies procedures and/or practice guidelines for the program. Ability to supervise multidisciplinary staff assigned to the program. Skill in organizing work setting priorities meeting multiple deadlines and evaluating assigned program area(s). Ability to provide training orientation and guidance within clinical practice. The actual grade at which an applicant may be selected for this vacancy is a GS12 Preferred Experience: Work experience with persons with serious mental illness Work experience in Psychosocial Rehabilitation or Recovery Services Work experience working with Veterans Physical Requirements: Ability to physically access various treatment settings within the facility. Ability to use computers frequently/continuously throughout the day for data input and communication. Ability to use phone. Position is primarily sedentary and incumbent must be able to sit for prolonged periods of time. May require light lifting and carrying (under 10 pounds) and climbing stairs as needed. Possession of current and valid drivers license is a requirement as incumbent is required to provider consultation services to other Detroit VA staff located in the community or for the purpose of building collaborations and networking with community agencies to promote Recovery. Works in a modern facility well lit and temperature controlled. Duties are performed in an office setting and/or on hospital wards and clinics where there is the possibility of exposure to contagious disease infection radiation mechanical chemical and electrical hazards. May require off post visits to agencies or home visits. Requires use of computers and software programs. There is a possibility of violence requiring the use of good judgment initiation of safety precautions and practice of universal precautions or other good health and hygiene practices. Must adjust to frequently changing workloads and frequent interruptions. The incumbent may perform work outside outside and inside in excessive heat in excessive cold excessive humidity excessive dampness or chilling dry atmospheric conditions excessive noise (intermittent) slippery or uneven walking surfaces working around moving objects or vehicles working closely with others working alone protracted or irregular hours of work.
