The Successful Applicant
Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Noncitizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Education. Have a masters degree in social work from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Graduates of schools of social work that are in candidacy status do not meet this requirement until the school of social work is fully accredited. A doctoral degree in social work may not be substituted for the masters degree in social work. Verification of the degree can be made by going to the CSWE website to verify if that social work degree meets the accreditation standards for a master of social work. Licensure. Persons hired or reassigned to social worker positions in the GS185 series in VHA must be licensed by a state to independently practice social work at the masters degree level. Licensure for this position is at the Advanced Practice level. Physical Requirements. You are required to take a physical prior to entering on duty for this position. English Language Proficiency. Social workers must be proficient in spoken and written English. Grade Determinations: At the GSl2 grade Social Worker Program Coordinators are administratively responsible for a clinical program providing treatment to patients in a major specialty. They may be the sole practitioner in this specialty at the facility and typicallyprovide direct patient care services in the program area. They manage the daily operation of the program develop policiesand procedures for program operation and prepare reports and statistics for facility VISN and national use. They may beresponsible for the programs budget. Individuals assigned as Social Worker Program Coordinator or manager must be licensed or certified at the advanced practicelevel. Their experience must demonstrate possession of advanced practice skills and judgment demonstrating progressivelymore professional competency. They may have certification or other postmasters degree training from a nationallyrecognized professional organization or university that includes a defined curriculum/course of study and internship orequivalent supervised professional experience. In addition the candidate must demonstrate the professional KSAs listed below: Demonstrated Knowledge Skills and Abilities Indepth knowledge of the program coordinated and demonstrated knowledge and ability to write policies proceduresand/or practice guidelines for the program. Knowledge and skill in management/administration which includes supervision consultation negotiation and monitoring. Ability to supervise multidisciplinary staff assigned to the program. Ability to organize work set priorities meet multiple deadlines and evaluate assigned program area(s).licensure. Ability to provide training orientation consultation and guidance within clinical specialization of practice. References:VA Handbook 5005 Part II Appendix G39. Social Worker Qualification Standard GS0185. This can be found inthe local Human Resources Office. Physical Requirements: Must be in overall good health able to sit at a desk working at a computer engage in light to moderate physical activity including sitting walking bending and carrying supplies. Applicants must be able to perform primarily light and sedentary duties with occasionally moderate physical demands exercise patience and control emotions with reasonable accommodation if necessary without endangering the health and safety of the applicant or others. Position requires walking throughout the clinic and the Medical Center standing for extended periods of time and involves sitting at a computer and in counsel and consultation with Veterans and interdisciplinary teams. Position may require minimal travel into the community to meet with community agencies and partners who assist and support to the Caregiver Support program its Veterans and caregivers. This position also requires close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures transcribing viewing a computer terminal extensive reading and repetitive motions of the wrists hands and/or fingers.
