The Successful Applicant

Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Noncitizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Education. Have a masters degree in social work from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Graduates of schools of social work that are in candidacy status do not meet this requirement until the school of social work is fully accredited. A doctoral degree in social work may not be substituted for the masters degree in social work. Verification of the degree can be made by going to the CSWE website to verify if that social work degree meets the accreditation standards for a master of social work. Licensure. Persons hired or reassigned to social worker positions in the GS185 series in VHA must be licensed or certified by a state to independently practice social work at the masters degree level. English Language Proficiency. Social workers must be proficient in spoken and written English in accordance Grade Determination: To qualify as a GS12 Social Work Program Coordinator you must be licensed or certified at the advanced practice level. Your experience must demonstrate possession of advanced practice skills and judgment demonstrating progressively more professional competency. In addition you must demonstrate the professional knowledge skills and abilities listed below: 1. Indepth knowledge of the program coordinated and demonstrated knowledge and ability to write policies procedures and/or practice guidelines for the program.2. Knowledge and skill in management/administration which includes supervision consultation negotiation and monitoring.3. Ability to supervise multidisciplinary staff assigned to the program.4. Ability to organize work set priorities meet multiple deadlines and evaluate assigned program area(s).5. Ability to provide training orientation consultation and guidance within clinical specialization of practice. Preferred Experience: Minimum of two years fulltime experience providing direct care to patients in an outpatient mental healthcare setting and experience as a program/project coordinator clinical administrator and/or supervisor. References: VA Handbook 5005 Part II Appendix G39 (Social Worker Qualification Standard) Physical Requirements: The incumbent must be able to exercise a high degree of emotional and mental discipline at all times in order to continue to carry out duties effectively. This is especially necessary during time periods when the incumbent encounters significant or extreme duress as a result of interactions with patient etc.
