The Successful Applicant
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must have (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS6) in the Federal service that has given you the knowledge skills and abilities required to successfully perform the duties independently of a Social Worker Associate and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled Specialized experience includes: Providing assistance and services as prescribed for individual cases by social workers in conjunction with their professional treatment experience as a social welfare worker or social work assistant in a voluntary public social or health agency document all social work activities in medical records in accordance with policy helps patients fill out application forms gather information and handle detail around discharge planning provide services that support treatment and intervention follow up on documents reports or information needed for social work treatment make phone calls or personal contact to physicians family and community referrals utilize word processing software and spreadsheets for communication and reports. NOTE: Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must clearly indicate the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. AND ENGLISH LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY: In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7402(d) no person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English. You must be proficient in basic written and spoken English in order to meet the requirements of this position. AND BASIC EDUCATION REQUIREMENT (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED): Bachelors degree (or higher) from an accredited college or university in major fields of study such as: social welfare sociology psychology public administration philosophy education anthropology history economics and/or English. AND DRIVERS LICENSE REQUIREMENT: Must possess a current and valid stateissued drivers license to perform the duties of this position NOTE: We cannot accept photographs therefore please do not submit a copy of your license with your application package. If an interview is conducted you will be required to provide a copy of your current and valid stateissued drivers license at that time. You will be rated on the following Competencies as part of the assessment questionnaire for this position: Intervention Oral Communication Patient Care Psychological Assessment Teamwork IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 3540 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Parttime experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g. Peace Corps AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g. professional philanthropic religious spiritual community student social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies knowledge and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience including volunteer experience. Physical Requirements: Physical Demands: A significant amount of walking throughout the Medical Center is required for facetoface contact with patients family members and medical center staff. Additionally the Social Worker Associate will be expected to work in the community on developing and maintaining a list of housing resources.
