The Successful Applicant

To qualify for this position applicant(s) must possess all of the following qualifications: BASIC EDUCATION REQUIREMENT (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED): Bachelors degree (or higher) from an accredited college or university in major fields of study such as: social welfare sociology psychology public administration philosophy education anthropology history economics and/or English. AND SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Two years of specialized experience as a social welfare worker or social work assistant in a voluntary public social or health agency. One year of this experience must have been in a medical setting and equivalent to the next lower grade in Federal service. Specialized experience includes: developing psychosocial assessments of patients to identify social emotional physical familial economic and vocational/avocational strengths needs and resources identifying/providing community and other resources provides education related to benefits/services and referrals participating on committees/work groups to represent social work services addressing program development education matters of an administrative nature. AND ENGLISH LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY: In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7402(d) no person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English. You must be proficient in basic written and spoken English in order to meet the requirements of this position. You will be rated on the following Competencies as part of the assessment questionnaire for this position: Communication Customer Service (Clerical/Technical) Technical Documentation IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 3540 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Parttime experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g. Peace Corps AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g. professional philanthropic religious spiritual community student social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies knowledge and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience including volunteer experience. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The employee sits comfortably when completing clinical documentations. Other activities include standing and minimal lifting of less than 20 pounds. Requires a significant amount of walking throughout the medical center for facetoface contact with patients family members community agencies and medical center staff. May be required to push wheelchairs of patients with limited mobility when providing escort services and the work may require special physical demands during therapeutic hold or therapeutic containment when responding to disruptive behaviors.
