The Successful Applicant

To qualify for this position applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement 11/17/2023. TimeInGrade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet timeingrade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS05 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS07. The grade may have been in any occupation but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF50 that shows your timeingrade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF50 has an effective date within the past year it may not clearly demonstrate you possess oneyear timeingrade as required by the announcement. In this instance you must provide an additional SF50 that clearly demonstrates oneyear timeingrade. Note: TimeInGrade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment. ENGLISH LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY: In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7402(d) No person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English. You must be proficient in basic written and spoken English in order to meet the requirements of this position. Individual Occupation Requirements (IOR): All applicants must meet one of the following BASIC REQUIREMENTS: Completion of a Bachelors or higher degree that included a major field of study in behavioral or social science or related disciplines appropriate to this position. OR Appropriate combination of education and experience that provided knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field. The quality of the combination of education and experience must be sufficient to demonstrate that the knowledge skills and abilities required to perform work in the occupation and is comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of a full 4year course of study with a major in the appropriate field. OR At least four (4) years of appropriate experience that demonstrates acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field. NOTE: When applying for positions with a Basic Education Requirement you MUST provide transcript(s) at the time of application that state a degree was conferred in the appropriate field. Unofficial transcripts are acceptable however display copies of degrees or course listings are not adequate and do not provide the information needed to verify that you have the basic education requirement. You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS05 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include but are not limited to: experience in positions that require basic knowledge of health coaching to promote healthy lifestyle choices conducts outreach activities to inform veterans and family members of available programs experience working with software programs such as Word Excel Access Power Point to track data assists with data management analyses special studies and reports create and develop educational presentations ability to create develop and distribute health education materials and conduct educational events to explain health coaching conducts interventions for veterans using oneonone couple or group modalities develops treatment plans for veterans focused on behavioral interventions ability to interact and relate with people of varied educational and professional backgrounds of many cultural groups and socioeconomic levels experience in positions that required customer service skills and skill in oral and written communication and interpersonal relations to appropriately and courteously relate to internal and external customers. OR Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have successfully completed 1 year of graduatelevel education or superior academic achievement at an accredited college or university. The number of semester hours required to constitute a major field of study is the amount specified by the college or university attended. If this number cannot be obtained 24 semester hours will be considered as equivalent to a major field of study. NOTE: Official/unofficial transcripts must be submitted with your application or your application will not be reviewed. Education cannot be credited without documentation. OR Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have an combination of specialized experience and education beyond a graduate degree providing with the knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field of the position. You will be rated on the following Competencies for this position: Computer Skills Interpersonal Skills Teaches Others Technical Competence Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g. Peace Corps AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g. professional philanthropic religions spiritual community student social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies knowledge and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 3540 hours of work per week. Parttime experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements: Regular and recurring work is mostly sedentary involving sitting at a desk although the position requires the ability to move from one geographic location of the facility to another.
