The Successful Applicant
To qualify for this position applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement 11/03/2023. TimeInGrade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet timeingrade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS12 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS11. The grade may have been in any occupation but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF50 that shows your timeingrade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF50 has an effective date within the past year it may not clearly demonstrate you possess oneyear timeingrade as required by the announcement. In this instance you must provide an additional SF50 that clearly demonstrates oneyear timeingrade. Note: TimeInGrade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment. BASIC REQUIREMENT: Applicants must meet one of the below requirements for the Social Science 0101 occupational series. Individual Occupational Requirements are used in conjunction with a group coverage (generic) standard. Applicants who do not meet the individual occupational requirements are ineligible for further consideration. Degree: behavioral or social science or related disciplines appropriate to the position. OR Combination of education and experience that provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field. OR Four years of appropriate experience that demonstrated that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field. NOTE: Examples of related behavioral or social science degrees are as follows: psychology social work sociology family counseling mental health counseling nursing ministry and criminal justice. In addition to the Basic Requirements identified above you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below. Specialized Experience GS12: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS11 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include but are not limited to: Experience giving advice counsel or instruction to employees on technical work issues and administrative matters directs coordinates and oversees the work of subordinate supervisors and staff makes decisions on work problems presented by subordinate supervisors hears and resolves group grievances or other serious employee complaints develops performance standards for and evaluates subordinate supervisors identifies developmental and training needs of employees. Comprehensive knowledge and experience in the following: VA laws directives regulations policies procedures precedents etc. in crisis management suicide prevention and other related mental health areas in a the VCL call center prepare recommendations for enhanced program efficiency/effectiveness for communitybased crisis intervention support services ensure that team is referencing the latest policies and procedures as related to mental health services mental health assessment triage procedures and crisis intervention techniques in a call Center environment clinical operations and procedures including phone chat text and email messaging to ensure that program is working cohesively within Crisis Operations procedures applying analytical and evaluative methods and techniques to issues or studies concerning the efficiency and effectiveness of program operations communicate effectively to deliver information briefings and presentations develop various work products create or edit policies SOPs training and knowledge management documents and policies remaining calm and providing confident leadership and direction in stressful situations. You will be rated on the following Competencies for this position: Communications Administration and Management Leadership Technical Competence Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g. Peace Corps AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g. professional philanthropic religions spiritual community student social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies knowledge and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 3540 hours of work per week. Parttime experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements: The work is primarily sedentary although some slight physical effort may be required. Work Environment: Work is performed in a typical office setting with adequate lighting and climate controls. The work may require occasional travel.
