The Successful Applicant
Applicants must meet all qualifications and eligibility requirements by the closing date of the announcement including specialized experience and/or education as defined below. Basic Requirement: To qualify for the Social Science job series all applicants must meet at least one of the following degree requirements by the closing date of the job announcement: Successful completion of a degree in behavioral or social science or related disciplines appropriate to the position. OR Equivalent combination of education and experience that provided you with the knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field. OR Four years of appropriate experience that demonstrates you have acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field. In addition to the basic requirement you must also meet the minimum qualifications for this position: To qualify for the GS12 level your resume must clearly demonstrate that you have one full year of specialized experience comparable in difficulty and responsibility to at least the GS11 level in private and/or federal service. Example of qualifying experience include the following types of tasks performed on a regular and recurring basis: Conducting quantitative and qualitative analyses of the impact of policy options (e.g. using costbenefit analysis survey design and analysis statistics microsimulation indepth interviews focus groups and/or case studies experience using statistical programs such as SPSS SAS Stata or R) Utilizing spreadsheet software (Excel) for advanced functions such as array formula lookup functions or pivot table and/or other complex research methods Preparing written documents that describe the methodology used and results of qualitative or quantitative analyses of policy options (e.g. decision memos briefing papers talking points regulatory impact analyses research briefs and/or journal articles) AND Designing implementing conducting and critiquing research and analysis projects. To qualify for the GS13 level your resume must clearly demonstrate that you have one full year of specialized experience comparable in difficulty and responsibility to at least the GS12 level in private and/or federal service. Example of qualifying experience include the following types of tasks performed on a regular and recurring basis: Conceptualizing and designing frameworks to conduct data analysis of largescale federal programs utilizing extant data sources (e.g. performing costbenefit analysis for proposed policy changes and providing recommendations to management and designing and completing regulatory impact analyses research briefs and journal articles) Analyzing interpreting and summarizing data to explain and monitor trends in largescale federal programs (e.g. using survey design and analysis statistics and/or microsimulation to produce materials like decision memos briefing papers talking points research briefs and/or journal articles) AND Designing implementing conducting and critiquing research and analysis projects. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g. Peace Corps AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g. professional philanthropic religious spiritual community student social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience including volunteer experience.
