The Successful Applicant

Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Noncitizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. English Proficiency: Must be proficient in spoken and written English in accordance with VA Handbook 5005 Part II chapter 3 section A paragraph 3. Education: Must have a Masters Degree in Social Work (MSW) from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) (transcript required). Graduates of schools of social work that are in candidacy status do not meet this requirement until the school of social work is fully accredited. A doctoral degree in social work may not be substituted for the masters degree in social work. Verification of the degree can be made by going to the CSWE website to verify if that social work degree meets the accreditation standards for a Master of Social Work. Licensure: Must have a full current and unrestricted license to practice social work in a State Territory Commonwealth of the United States (i.e. Puerto Rico) or the District of Columbia. Certification: Must be licensed or certified at the advanced practice level and must be able to provide supervision for licensure. Grade Determinations for the GS12 grade level: One year of experience equivalent to the GS12 grade level. Experience must demonstrate possession of advanced practice skills judgement and at least two years in an area of specialized social work practice. Candidates must be licensed or certified by a state at the advance practice level and have certification or other postmasters training from a nationally recognized professional organization or university that includes a defined curriculum/course of study and internship or equivalent supervised professional experience. Physical Requirements: Work is performed in a clinical setting that exposes the incumbent to communicable diseases common to the client population. Some work is performed outside the medical center campus where the environment cannot be controlled.
