The Successful Applicant

Basic Requirements: Citizenship Be a citizen of the United States. (Noncitizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with chapter 3 section A paragraph 3g Education Have a masters degree in social work from a school of social work fully by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Graduates from school of social that are in candidacy status do not meet this requirement until the School of Social Work fully accredited. A doctoral degree in social work may not be substituted for the masters in social work. Verification of the degree can be made by going to http://www.cswe.org/Accreditation to verify that the social work degree meets the accreditation standards for a Master of Social Work. Licensure/Certification Individuals assigned as social worker program coordinator must be licensed or certified at the advanced practice level and must be able to provide supervision for licensure. English Language Proficiency. Candidates must be proficient in spoken and written English to be appointed as authorized by 38 U.S.C. 7403(f). Grade Determinations: In addition to meeting the basic requirements stated above the following qualifications criteria must be met in determining the appropriate grade assignment of candidates. GS13 Social Worker (Program Coordinator) candidates must have the following: Experience/Education: One (1) year of experience equivalent to the GS12 grade level. Experience must demonstrate possession of advanced practice skills and judgment demonstrating progressively more professional competency. Candidates may have certification or other postmasters degree training from a nationally recognized professional organization or university that includes a defined curriculum/course of study and internship or equivalent supervised professional experience. Licensure/Certification: Individuals assigned as social worker program coordinator must be licensed or certified at the advanced practice level and must be able to provide supervision for licensure. (a) Skill in coordinating and implementing one or more specialty program(s) across the facility. (b) Skill in local policy and practice development procedures and/or practice guidelines for the program as prescribed by the program handbook or national directive. (c) Skill in organizing work setting priorities meeting multiple deadlines and evaluating assigned program area(s). (d) Ability to collaborate with internal and external partners to further program goals and enhance patient centered care. (e) Ability to provide the full range of supervisory duties including assignment of work to be performed performance evaluations and selection of staff training and recommendation of awards advancements and when appropriate disciplinary action. (f) Ability to oversee the fiscal matters of the functions supervised (including fund controls contracts and equipment expenditures) forecast resource and equipment needs and administer the allocated budget. The full performance level of this vacancy is GS13. Physical Requirements: The physical demands of the work are generally minor. The work is primarily sedentary in climate controlled clinical and administrative settings. The incumbent will be expected to successfully negotiate various functional requirements: lifting (1544 pounds) carrying (1544 pounds) walking (13 hours) reaching above their shoulder(s) the use of hands or fingers sitting (46 hours) standing (12 hours) repeated bending using stairs or elevators functional vision clear speech hearing and emotional stability. There may be occasional requirements to relocate boxed materials from one area to another equipment and room setup and physical inspections of the facilities.
