The Successful Applicant
Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Noncitizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Experience Education and Licensure. Individuals assigned as Supervisory Social Workers must be licensed or certified at the advanced practice level and must be able to provide supervision for subordinate staff to qualify for licensure. Their experience must demonstrate possession of advancedpractice skills in a specialty area or in administration demonstrating progressively more professional competency and judgment. They may have certification or other postmasters degree training from a nationally recognized professional organization or university that includes a defined curriculum/course of study and internship or equivalent supervised professional experience. In addition the candidate must demonstrate the professional KSAs in subparagraph (b) below. Demonstrated Knowledge Skills and Abilities1. Ability to independently organize work set priorities and meet multiple deadlines.2. Knowledge and skill in management/administration which includes supervision consultationnegotiation and monitoring.3. Ability to ensure provision of clinical social work services by supervised social workers.4. Ability to provide administrative supervision and clinical supervision including supervision for socialwork licensure. Assistant Service Chief of Social Work Service. Is restricted to those serving as a full assistant to the Chief Social Work Service for both administrative and professional practice. These individuals are to share with the Chief full responsibility for managing and supervising all aspects of social work service operations. The Assistant Service Chief is to be one grade less than the grade of the Chief Social Work Service. May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria). Grade Determinations: Individuals assigned as service chiefs or assistant service chiefs must have the equivalent of at least 1 year of creditable experience comparable to the next lower grade level. The experience must evidence possession of supervisory and management skills. References: VA HANDBOOK 5005/50 PART II APPENDIX G39 The full performance level of this vacancy is GS 14. The actual grade at which an applicant may be selected for this vacancy is GS 14 to . Physical Requirements: Moderate lifting (1544 pounds) straight pulling (4 hours) pushing (4 hours) reaching above shoulder use of fingers both hands required walking (2 hours) standing (7 hours) kneeling (1 hour) repeating bending (4 hours) both legs required near vision correctable at 13 to 16 to Jaeger 1 to 4 far vision correctable in one eye to 20/50 and to 20/100 in the other ability to distinguish basic colors hearing (aid permitted) mental and emotional stability.
