The Successful Applicant
To minimally qualify for the GS12 and GS13 positions you must meet all of the following requirements listed below: This position has a positive education (or years of related experience) requirement. To qualify for this position (regardless of grade) you must meet one of the basic requirements described below: Basic Requirements Degree: behavioral or social science or related disciplines appropriate to the position. If you are using education to substitute for the specialized experience you must submit transcripts at the time you apply. or Combination of education and experience that provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field. or Four years of appropriate experience that demonstrated that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field. GS12 ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS In addition to meeting the basic requirement qualified applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade (GS11) in the Federal service which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position. Specialized Experience requirement The goal of a Social Science Analyst is to develop new findings about the relationship between society the human condition and important social issues to help create better solutions to these problems. With this understanding Specialized Experience is defined as: Experience using social science methodologies to conduct research into major social issues within (or may have an impact on) an agency business or organization to include analyzing data conducting interviews and surveys studying physical evidence developing solutions based on findings developing strategies writing reports conducting presentations of findings and making recommendations. Working with statistics (or conducting a statistical analysis) to collect and analyze data to identify patterns and trends. Demonstrative or working knowledge in advanced social science methodology sufficient to serve as a troubleshooter specialist or coordinator. GS13 ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS In addition to meeting the basic requirement qualified applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade (GS12) in the Federal service which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position. Designing and implementing quantitative/statistical studies of the effectiveness of programs or services. Designing and implementing qualitative studies of the effectiveness of programs or services. Note about experience aquired Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g. Peace Corps AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g. professional philanthropic religious spiritual community student social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies knowledge and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience including volunteer experience.
