The Successful Applicant

Basic Requirements Citizenship: Citizen of the United States. Licensure: Persons hired or reassigned to social worker positions in the GS0185 series in VHA must be licensed or certified by a state to independently practice social work at the advanced practice level. Education: Must have a masters degree in social work (MSW) from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Graduates of schools of social work that are in candidacy do not meet this requirement until the school of social work is fully accredited. A doctoral degree in social work may not be substituted for masters degree in social work. GS12 Social Worker (Program Coordinator) Experience and Education: In addition to the basic requirements applicants must have at least one year of experience equivalent to the GS11 grade level. Experience must demonstrate possession of advanced practice skills in a specialty area or in administration demonstrating progressively more professional competency and judgment. Candidate may have certification or other postmasters degree training from a nationally recognized professional organization or university that includes a defined curriculum/course of study and internship or equivalent supervised professional experience. Licensure/Certification: Individuals assigned as social worker program coordinator must be licensed or certified at the advanced practice level and must be able to provide supervision for licensure. Knowledge Skills and Abilities: In addition to the experience above candidates must demonstrate all of the following KSAs: Knowledge of program coordination and administration which includes consultation negotiation and monitoring. Knowledge and ability to write policies procedures and/or practice guidelines for the program Ability to supervise multidisciplinary staff assigned to the program. Skill in organizing work setting priorities meeting multiple deadlines and evaluating assigned program area(s). Ability to provide training orientation and guidance within clinical practice. Preferred Experience Experience working with patients who have experienced intimate partner violence. Experience working with patients who have experienced sexual violence. Experience developing and implementing programs. Experience providing individual and group therapy. References: VA Handbook 5005 Part II Appendix G39 Social Worker Qualification Standard. Physical Requirements: Light lifting (under 15 pounds) light carrying (under 15 pounds) reaching above shoulder use of fingers both hands required walking standing near vision correctable at 13 to 16 hearing (aid permitted) emotional stability. Occasional travel may be required to various VA Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System sites and community in order to provide support and meet clinical and technology needs with the veterans their families and representatives of community health.
