The Successful Applicant
To qualify for this position applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement 07/19/2022 Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Noncitizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Education: Have a masters degree in social work from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Graduates of schools of social work that are in candidacy status do not meet this requirement until the school of social work is fully accredited. A doctoral degree in social work may not be substituted for the masters degree in social work. Verification of the degree can be made by going to the CSWE website to verify if that social work degree meets the accreditation standards for a master of social work. Licensure: Persons hired or reassigned to social worker positions in the GS185 series in VHA must be licensed or certified by a state to independently practice social work at the masters degree level. Current state requirements may be found on the OHRM website. Physical Requirements: VA Directive and Handbook 5019 states that applicants must complete a preemployment physical with the possibility of a drug screen. English Language Proficiency: Social workers must be proficient in spoken and written English in accordance with VA Handbook 5005 Part II chapter 3 section A paragraph 3j. Advanced Practice License: Individuals assigned as social worker program coordinator must be licensed or certified at the advanced practice level and must be able to provide supervision for licensure. Current state requirements may be found on the OHRM website. License must be included in resume and the date of issuance with state. GS12 Senior Social Worker Experience Requirement: To qualify for the GS12 you must possess at least one year of experience that demonstrates the KSAs below. This experience must be equivalent to the GS11 grade level. NOTE: GS12 social workers have experience that demonstrates possession of advanced practice skills and judgment. GS12 social workers are experts in their specialized area of practice. GS12 social workers may have certification or other postmasters training from a nationally recognized professional organization or university that includes a defined curriculum/course of study and internship or equivalent supervised professional experience in a specialty. KSAs:1. Knowledge of program coordination and administration which includes consultation negotiation and monitoring.2. Knowledge and ability to write policies procedures and/or practice guidelines for the program.3. Ability to supervise multidisciplinary staff assigned to the program.4. Skill in organizing work setting priorities meeting multiple deadlines and evaluating assigned program area(s).5. Ability to provide training orientation and guidance within clinical practice. References: VA HANDBOOK 5005/23 Part II Appendix G39 The full performance level of this vacancy is GS12. Physical Requirements: Work is primarily sedentary. Typically the employee will sit to do the work. However there may be some walking standing bending carrying of light items accessing transportation and/or driving a government vehicle. The work requires patience and control of emotions. Work may require occasional use of appropriate techniques to physically restrain clients who present a danger to self or others
