The Successful Applicant
Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Noncitizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Education: Have a masters degree in social work from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Graduates of schools of social work that are in candidacy status do not meet this requirement until the School of Social Work is fully accredited. A doctoral degree in social work may not be substituted for the masters degree in social work. NOTE: Transcripts must be submitted. (A diploma will not be accepted in lieu of a transcript). Licensure: Persons hired or reassigned to social worker positions in the GS0185 series in VHA must be licensed or certified by a state to independently practice social work at the masters degree level. Current state requirements may be found by going to http://vaww.va.gov/OHRM/T38Hybrid/. NOTE: A copy of your current license must be submitted at time of application. English Language Proficiency: Candidates must be proficient in spoken and written English to be appointed as authorized by 38 U.S.C. sect 7403(f). May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria). Grade Determinations: Social Worker Program Coordinator GS12:Experience/Education: The candidate must have at least one year of experience equivalent to the GS11 grade level including knowledge of community services how to make appropriate referrals skill in independently conducting psychosocial assessment/treatment interventions knowledge of medical and mental health diagnoses skill in implementing different treatment modalities and ability to provide consultation services to new social workers. Experience must demonstrate possession of advanced practice skills and judgment demonstrating progressively more professional competency. Candidate may have certification or other postmasters degree training from a nationally recognized professional organization or university that includes a defined curriculum/course of study and internship or equivalent supervised professional experience. Licensure/Certification: Individuals assigned as social worker program coordinator must be licensed or certified at the advanced practice level and must be able to provide supervision for licensure. NOTE: CURRENT ACTIVE LICENSURE DOCUMENTATION MUST BE PROVIDED AT TIME OF APPLICATION.Demonstrated Knowledge Skills and Abilities. In addition to the above experience should demonstrate that it has provided you with the knowledge skills and abilities below. (KSAs must be clearly reflected in the resume under description of duties in order to be found qualified for this position/grade level).(a) Knowledge of program coordination and administration which includes consultation negotiation and monitoring.(b) Knowledge and ability to write policies procedures and/or practice guidelines for the program.(c) Ability to supervise multidisciplinary staff assigned to the program.(d) Skill in organizing work setting priorities meeting multiple deadlines and evaluating assigned program area(s).(e) Ability to provide training orientation and guidance within clinical practice. References: VA Handbook 5005 Part II Appendix G39. This position is announced above the full performance level at the GS12. The grade at which an applicant may be selected for this vacancy is GS12. Physical Requirements: The work is usually sedentary but it requires periods of walking standing bending or climbing and employee may carry light items such as books instruments lap tops and other similar materials.
