The Successful Applicant

Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Noncitizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. English Language Proficiency: Candidates must be proficient in spoken and written English to be appointed as authorized by 38 U.S.C. 167 7403(f). Education: Applicant must have a masters degree in social work from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Graduates of schools of social work that are in candidacy status do not meet this requirement until the School of Social Work is fully accredited. A doctoral degree in social work may not be substituted for the masters degree in social work. Licensure: Persons hired or reassigned to social worker positions in the GS0185 series in VHA must be licensed or certified by a state to independently practice social work at the masters degree level. May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria). Preferred Experience: The HUDVASH Supervisor should possess the following: A pleasant positive respectful disposition. Ability to communicate with and manage a diverse population of Veterans and staff communicate effectively verbally and in writing effectively perform both clinical and supervisory duties relate in a positive manner to staff and to unhoused Veterans interact in a nonjudgmental manner with persons of varied ethnic socioeconomic and religious backgrounds or sexual orientations and to engage in physical activities associated with working with unhoused Veterans including climbing stairs extensive walking and other physical activities. Skill in the effective use of various computer applications conflict resolution and management database creation and management and effective coordination and collaboration with VA and community providers. Grade Determinations:Supervisory Social Worker GS13Experience and Education. One year of experience equivalent to the GS12 grade level. Experience must demonstrate possession of advanced practice skills in a specialty area or in administration demonstrating progressively more professional competency and judgment. Candidate may have certification or other postmasters degree training from a nationally recognized professional organization or university. Examples of creditable experience include but not limited to clinical program effectiveness and modification of service patterns collaborates with the other members of the treatment team in the provision of comprehensive health care services provide leadership direction orientation coaching inservice training staff development and continuing education programs for assigned social work staff and experience in a range of specialized interventions and treatment modalities. Resume must include hours per week for work experience credit. Licensure/Certification. Individuals assigned as supervisory social workers must be licensed or certified at the advanced practice level and must be able to provide supervision for licensure. Demonstrated Knowledge Skills and Abilities. In addition to the experience or education above the candidate must demonstrate the following KSAs:(a) Ability to independently organize work set priorities and meet multiple deadlines.(b) Skill in a range of supervisory duties which includes clinical supervision consultation negotiation with other departments and quality improvement. (c) Ability to ensure provision of clinical social work services by supervised social workers.(d) Ability to delegate authority manage priorities coordinate work and follow up on pending issues to complete duties in an accurate and timely fashion.(e) Ability to analyze organizational and operational problems develop and implement solutions that result in efficient operations and use data effectively to manage workload quality performance and productivity within the service.(f) Ability to provide staff training and development. Physical Requirements: The work requires moderate lifting and carrying (1544 pounds) used of fingers and hands walking (1 hour) standing (1/2 hour) kneeling (1/4 hour) repeated bending (1/4 hour) climbing legs only (1/2 hour) both legs required Ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously Able to pass a driving test both eyes required depth perception hearing (aid permitted). Environmental factors include outside and inside excessive heat excessive cold excessive humidity slippery or uneven walking surfaces working around vehicles working closely with others and irregular tour once a week.
